10 years of art on containers

The exhibition 10 years of art on containers proposes a journey through the winning works of the ten editions of the Contest for Artistic Interventions on Containers.

The project began in 2013, the year in which Itsasmuseum, in collaboration with the UPV/EHU and Aurtenetxea Containers, promoted an artistic competition that invited students from the UPV/EHU’s Faculty of Fine Arts to transform shipping containers into works of urban art, with the aim of promoting creativity, local talent and artistic experimentation on the public highway. In 2014 it was integrated into Bilbao Art District and had the collaboration of Bilbao Ekintza. This alliance gave the initiative greater visibility.

The exhibition offers a visual tour of all the winning works, with images of the artistic installations, models and a brief description of each proposal.

Although the theme of the interventions was free, the relationship with the environment and with the museum’s narrative was highly valued. For this reason, all the selected proposals addressed issues such as the sea, equality, sustainability, industry or the maritime history of Bizkaia from an artistic and creative point of view.

The exhibition will be open in the Carol Iglesias Espazioa until 29 June and admission is free.
